Using its official Twitter account, WhatsApp posted a thread on Wednesday informing users about the multiple layers of security in place to protect their privacy on the app.

The instant messaging app also revealed a new feature for leaving groups silently.

"Leave groups silently is a new feature that only notifies the administrator when you leave a group chat." That means you can decide when to leave quietly—without everyone knowing," WhatsApp said in a tweet.

"Not even WhatsApp can read your private messages," the account said on Twitter.

WhatsApp has piqued the interest of users by informing them of its plans to roll out two new features: online presence and screenshot blocking.

"When you have an online presence, you have control over who can and cannot see you. "Screenshot blocking for view once protects your photos and videos from screenshots," WhatsApp tweeted.

The app also informed users about its cloud backup feature for personal messages.

"Enable encrypted backups to extend the security of end-to-end encryption to messages saved on iCloud or Google Drive," WhatsApp explained.

While most users are aware of two-step verification, many overlook this critical privacy feature. WhatsApp claims that this adds a second layer of security to your account.

"You select a PIN that will be required when someone logs into your account from a new device," the messaging app said in a tweet.

The Twitter thread emphasised the block feature, which allows users to prevent unsolicited contacts from messaging them and even report them if they encounter spamming or other problematic behaviour.
